Did you know that May 7 - 11 

is 

Hunger Awareness Week in Canada

We want to raise awareness 

of the solvable problem of  Hunger in Canada

Many people do not realize the extent of hunger’s reach in this country. Each month, close to 900,000 Canadians are assisted by food banks, and 38% of those helped are children and youth.

The problem of hunger is a persistent one, with food banks providing comparable levels of food and other assistance 

for the better part of a decade.

Who is turning to food banks? 

There is no single, typical profile. 

The people helped include families with children, 

employed people whose wages are not sufficient to cover basic living essentials, individuals on social assistance,

 and Canadians living on a fixed income, 

including people with disabilities and seniors.

National Campaign 

On the evening of May 9th MPs

 are fasting for the day, 

and will be breaking fast on May 10th

the Member of Parliament in your area 

Encourage him/her to submit 

a fabulous chicken sandwich recipe 

so that they will have the opportunity 

to win up to $10,000 for their local Food Banks 

(2nd prize is $5000, 3rd prize is $2000)!

in your tweet 

that will be used 

throughout the campaign on twitter

How fabulous would that be, directly impacting

 the hunger issue, in your own backyard

The winning recipe will be served

to over 10,000 people 

at the 20th Annual Great Canadian Chicken BBQ

in Ottawa on Canada Day
