Happy Vintage Christmas Monday !!

by , in
I've taken the plunge
and decided to join a party
named Vintage Christmas Monday thrown by
our hostess Joan at 'anything goes here'.
Who can resist a Christmas Party,
nevermind one full of nostalgia.
Please visit the sidebar of Joan's world
for all of the party guests!!
These absolutely gorgeous
Vintage Christmas ornaments
were in my husband's family
for as long as he can remember.

I love the simple graphics on the boxes

This poor box has seen better days

Because of my bad camera you cannot
see the detail and all of the
gorgeous glitter on the white spaces

Can't wait to get our tree, because we use a real tree,

it will be about 2 more weeks, so I can finally use these beauties

These two are my favorite.

The patina on the pretty pink heart melts mine.

The long shape of the red ornament

is so pretty with the sparkle!

Thanks for stopping by!!
Have a fantastic week friends!!

An Olde Fashioned Christmas Swap

by , in
Happy Saturday Friends!!
This exploration into blogging has opened up
a world that I had long forgotten.
I used to love creating with my hands
and had forgotten the joy that it brought me.
Joining swaps has
re-ignighted that flame and I think I am hooked!!
The Christmas season is fast approaching
and I have just completed
an Olde Fashioned Christmas Swap
These are a few of the goodies that
I sent to my swap partner

This was a prim swap and my first attempt at crafting Primitive

I made these adorable bowl filler ornies,
3 large stars, grunged up and embellished
with a bow and bell with a coffee stained tag

An adorable wooden sign

'It's a Wonderful Life' embroidered textile

Some of you might remember my teaser
of the tea dying process,
I used the torn muslin for the base of this banner
and individually created some little ornies

I ended up with this really cute Christmas banner,
it is about 75 inches wide

I received an e-mail from Kaaren
and she received all of her goodies safe and sound

Lookie what I received in the mail,
a box full of Christmas goodness,
I could not wait to break into
this box of festive tissue paper

Kaaren made me a pretty pillow
that she stamped and then quilted,
the most creative little Santa made
from an old fashioned milk bottle.
A snowman 'Twinkle' with
a rusty star on his belly
as well as a spool turned into a little snowman.
My lighted item was a
metal candle prim pan holder with some pears...so cute.

Don't you just love this snowman made from

a styrofoam ball and crinkle paper...I received two of them.

they are already hanging up for all to see.
Thanks so much for your kind gifts Kaaren,
these were obviously made with care
and they will be part of my
Christmas decorations for years to come.
I hope you are not all worn
out from your Turkey festivities
and Black Friday Shopping!!
Enjoy the day friends !!

Life has been crazy lately, so I thought that I would share

Black Friday madness of yesteryear!!

Travelling to the centre of town.

I Love how they crafted all of these

train cars out of wood...oh those were the days!!

The conductor looks as if he

really cares about the passengers!

How elegant and relaxed

the shopping experience was

.....individual attention, gift wrapped (free of charge),

exquisite cabinetry and fine quality fabrics

were a natural part of everyday life.

Thank you so much Jill for taking us on this

incredible Vintage Visual Journey,

it was so much fun & I am sad to see it coming to an end!!

Enjoy the rest of the day everyone!

Wednesday Wishes !!

by , in

I would like to wish all of
my Friends and Family in the U.S.A.
a Bountiful and Happy Thanksgiving tomorrow.
I thought I would share a recipe for this Yummy desert.
The recipe is from MyRecipies.com
and if you take a peek at their site
you will find many more scrumptious treats
to fill your home with glorious scents,
not to mention your tummys!!

Apple-Cranberry-Currant Pie with French Topping

Makes 10 to 12 servings
1/4 cup brandy
1/4 cup currants
1 1/2 cups fresh or thawed frozen cranberries
About 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
6 tablespoons plus 1 cup unbleached or regular all- purpose flour
1 tablespoon finely shredded orange zest
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
6 cups sliced peeled Granny Smith apples (about 2 1/4 lb.)
10-inch pie pastry for a single-crust pie
2/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup (1/4 lb.) butter or margarine, cut into chunks
1. In a small bowl, combine brandy and currants. Cover and let stand until currants are plump, at least 1 hour or up to 1 day.
2. Preheat oven to 375°. Sort cranberries and discard any that are bruised or decayed. Rinse and drain berries.
3. In a large bowl, mix 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar, 6 tablespoons flour, orange zest, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. With a slotted spoon, lift currants from brandy; reserve brandy. Add currants, cranberries, and apples to sugar mixture and mix well. Taste and add more granulated sugar if desired. Pour filling into unbaked 10-inch pie pastry in pan. Drizzle evenly with reserved brandy.
4. In another bowl, mix 1 cup flour and the brown sugar. Add butter and cut in with a pastry blender or rub with your fingers until mixture forms small lumps. Sprinkle topping evenly over filling. Set pie in a foil-lined 12-inch pizza pan or 10- by 15-inch baking pan.
5. Bake on the bottom rack until juices bubble around edges and through topping, 55 to 65 minutes. If pie browns too quickly (check after 30 minutes), cover loosely with foil.
6. Set pie, uncovered, on a rack until cool to touch, 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Cut into wedges.

Enjoy the day whether you are just chillin,
relaxing with family
watching some football games
or stuffing your adorable little faces....keep smilin.....
cause we all can find so much to be thankful for!!

Happy Vintage Black Friday !!

Happy Vintage Black Friday Friends!!!
Thanks so much for dropping by
my little space on this world wide web
Please visit Jill at 'Gypsy Brocante'
our lovely hostess for more VBF inspiration
Most of us grew up with music in our homes
My parents used to go dancing back in the day
they would put on the fancy clothes and cut a rug.
The images on Vintage sheet music are lively and fun

Good old Frank....no wonder the women swooned

Don't you just love the stole and the fabulous hat

This skirt is so amazing, I just picture her swirling

We all remember this song, the blackface makeup
was quite a popular image for stage
in the late 1800s

The tap shoes with the bows and the hot pants are to die for

The musical icon....Irving Berlin

I thought this was appropo for this little party

I see this and almost feel my body sway

A little creativity and preservation for

all of these fabulous treasures

The famous RCA Victor label, did you notice that

most of the record labels of yesteryear were black

with Gold illustration!

Have a fantastic Vintage Black Friday Friends!!
Hugs Nerina xOxO
