Silver Mine meets Hockey Day in Canada

by , in

Iwami Ginzan, is the latest addition to the World Heritage’s lists of old treasure collection.
This silver mine used to be the busiest silver mine in the world, produced 1/3rd of the world’s silver production in the 1500’s.
The silver mined from Iwami Ginzan was used mainly for coins. It was contested fiercely by warlords until the Tokugawa Shogunate won control of it in 1600 as a result of the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600.
It was later secured by fences and barricaded by pine trees. Yamabuki Castle was built in the centre of the complex.

Silver production from the mine fell in the nineteenth century as it had trouble competing with mines elsewhere and it was eventually closed.

Today, the mine is a just a lonely little hole in surrounded by shrubs and a huge tablet in front.
At a glance, one may not realize it’s historical value
but it does have an air of mysteriousness to it.

Hockey Day in Canada

The Ultimate Faceoff

Hockey events were happening all over Canada on Saturday

We spent the morning from 9:00am until 2:00pm outside on Saturday, celebrating Hockey Day in Canada, cheering on my son while he played in a Charity Ball Hockey Tournament representing his school at a nearby town.
Many venues had about 15 teams participating at the same time.

Bundled up, consuming hot beverages, all of the parents involved have known each other for many years and through many events as our kids are in 8th grade and are graduating this year.

5 games later and with record low temperatures

with the windchill -29, blue skies though

Oh my goodness is right!!

Totally fun event, parent bonding, the kids had a ball and now...we all can't wait for Spring
Enjoy the rest of your day folks!!
Happy Sunday !!

Please take some time today
our hostess for this

fabulous Pink Saturday Party

to renew your love of Pink.

Bake some Breakfast Strata and pour yourself an OJ

...everything tastes better

when it's served on

Johnson Bros Rose Chintz Pink China

Strawberry Macaroons

from 'Delicious' Magazine

50g ground almonds
140g icing sugar
2 large egg whites
1 tbsp caster sugar
Pink food colouring paste
3 tbsp good-quality strawberry jam

1. Preheat the oven to 190°C/fan170°C/gas 5. Line 2 large baking trays with non-stick baking paper.
2. Sieve the ground almonds and icing sugar together into a large bowl. Put the egg whites into a separate bowl, and using an electric hand whisk, beat to soft peaks. Add the caster sugar, and whisk until glossy. Fold into the almond and icing sugar mixture, along with a very small amount of the pink food colouring. Mix until just combined and evenly pink – the mixture will reduce as the air bubbles in the meringue burst.
3. Put the mixture into a disposable piping bag, snip off 1cm from the end. Pipe small blobs (about 1 heaped teaspoon each) onto the baking paper, spaced apart, so you have about 50 in total. Set aside for 10 minutes to dry – this is important as it gives the macaroons the correct texture. Bake for 5 minutes, then turn the whole sheet of paper over – the macaroons will be stuck so won’t fall off. Bake for another 4 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool.
4. Peel off the baking paper from the macaroons, then sandwich 2 together with a tiny blob of strawberry jam in the centre. Repeat to give you 25 in total.

Cook the macaroons on the middle and top shelves of the oven, and swap the trays around once the macaroons have been flipped over. Store the macaroons in an airtight container for up to 3 days. ENJOY !!!!

How can you resist Pretty Mixing Bowls....gotta love dots

Even plain old Salt and Pepper looks fabulous dressed in PiNk

My favorite china pattern - Port Meirion Botantic Garden
Keeps nature close by all year

Happy Pink Saturday Everyone!!

Enjoy yourself today!!

Sea and Sky Inspired

by , in

Hello Everyone !
Hope you are experiencing
some happy thoughts today!
I took a little inspiration from the Sea and Sky!!

I just don't know what is it about this terrific color that keeps me coming back for more, I suppose it is the calm and serenity of it all and also the fact that is turns the corners of my lips up to produce a rather large grin!

Enjoy your Thursday!!

a bit of snow and silver !!!

by , in

Hi there,

I hope you are enjoying your day so far!

Today is the third installment of

Silver Sunday

Take some time to visit and you will not be sorry.

All of the lovely participants have

some gorgeous treasures to share.

Beth has added a Mr. Linky

as the list of those who want to share

is huge and this way, everyone can join the fun.

My poor Hydrangea covered in snow...

...oh how I long for the Spring thaw

and the blooms to re-appear

I think I love the vibrant color of this Ivy now

so much better than when it is just green in the summer

One of our many birdhouses

waiting for the snow to melt

and a family to move in

I bought this silver lantern many years ago

and actually forgot about it

as it sit's at the top our landing.

I love the dents and the oil spill

running down the side.

I guess, I really prefer the timeworn silver

to the polished new,

although it all warms my heart...

The picture is of my DL's Mommy

taken many years ago,

it sits in this pretty frame also on the landing

Is this the most awesome silver

bits necklace you have ever seen.

Take a peak at Lemoncoly's Flight of Fancy blog

to see more of Kecia's amazing work.

Whimsical and fun,

she teaches classes all over

and you can sign up here

or you can purchase

many other goodies as well

I also wanted to mention that I will be participating in the 'One World One Heart' Giveaway event beginning January 25th and you can fly the magic carpet until February 15, 2010. There are hundreds of giveaways that will be posted on January 25th....come along for the ride...you will meet some interesting folks and maybe, you'll even win a goodie or two. More on this later....

Have a fabulous day everyone!!

PiNk LoVe !!

by , in
Welcome to Pink Saturday friends!
I found myself many moments
in deep reflection this week,
finally realizing
what I really craved
more than anything was
to see some pretty flowers

Miss Beverly of 'How Sweet the Sound' is
our lovely hostess for this
Pink Saturday Eye Candy treat.

Please visit Beverly to see
so much more luscious pinkness.

Roses are the classic flower that evokes romance

Fresh from the Market,

a pretty pink bouquet will brighten any mood

My favorite flower is Ranunculus,

they resemble roses without the thorns

When you add the green Bells of Ireland,

a few roses and branches from the backyard

arranged together in a black urn....be still my heart

Pink Dalias...what can I say....

The Lotus Flower

add a little sunshine and voila

Another favorite...the Peony...this

varigated variety looks gorgeous

I can just imagine the scent when

walking by this market...heavenly

Oh my gosh....Peonies and Pearls

I hope this pink post has made you smile

and brought a bit of joy to your day!!
