Welcome to Pink Saturday !!
A Ballerina or a Princess?
When Lady Diana Spencer was younger,
When Lady Diana Spencer was younger,
she was asked what she'd like to be when she grew up.
Diana thought for a minute and then replied,
"I think I would like to be a ballerina."
And then laughingly added,
"or perhaps the Princess of Wales."
A few years passed, and it became apparent
that one of her childhood dreams was about to come true.
"I grew too tall to be a Ballerina.
I was taller than all the boys."
Diana
Princess of Wales
Thank you Beverly at 'How Sweet the Sound'

for great Pink Saturday Posts.
I know all about her fascination, when I was a little girl,
maybe 9 - 12 years old, I took tons of classes,
I filled a couple of books with my sketches
of everything Ballet....toe shoes, tutu's, in practice, in shows,
hands...I know now I would say....obsessed!!
Back then, I thought I was in heaven,
I spent so much time in the Library
and book store, borrowing or purchasing
so many books with charming depictions
of the wonderful word of the ballerina.
I grew up with this fabulous poster
on my wall among others.
My bedroom was painted pink
and decorated with ballet goodies.
The day I moved out, my mom painted my room white.
Have a blissful weekend and a glorious Pink Saturday!!
Keep your dreams alive!!
Hugs, Nerina :)
verry nice:)

I never took ballet until I was in college and I loved it! I, of course, never made it to toe, but it was still a lot of fun. What I really like are the costumes. I love tutus and wish I could wear one every day. I hope you have a very Happy Pink Saturday!
ReplyDeleteBallet is awesome and I still so some moves now to keep my butt where it used to be. I wish I could wear a tutu every day as well, guess I would need to change professions first!!
ReplyDeleteWhat an absolutely beautiful PiNk SaTuRdAy post! My lunchbox when I was little was a pink vinyl ballerina one :) Hugs, Marsha

I know exactly how you feel. My first ambition was to be a ballerina too. I don't think I was as interested as you however! I think I only fell in love with the idea because of the fabulous costumes and tutus. I still to this day love to look at ballerina images though. What a great PS post! Happy Pink Saturday to you and have a loveleigh weekend!
ReplyDeleteI think all of us at some point in our girlie lives want to dance. I used to take ballet, but alas I was no good at it. Not at all. Your post is lovely and it goes to show that dreams can come true. But then of course they can turn into nightmares too!! Happy Pink Saturday and thankyou, it was beautiful, Char

Nerina, you are so right. It's important to keep your dream alive. And we share something in common, I love ballet, too. I took for a number of years, and somewhere buried in my attic are my toe shoes.
ReplyDeleteI still love dance and am thrilled to see ballerinas... young or old on stage. It delights my soul!
XO,
Sheila :-)

How lovely! Your blog is always such a pleasure to visit on Pink Saturday! Today it's sunny but most of this summer has been pretty gloomy in my corner of the world. Pink Saturday always gives me a little lift, especially if there isn't any sun outside!

Have a wonderful weekend filled with sunshine surrounded by your l♥ved ones! Life is good!

ReplyDeleteHi! I was captivated by yr title on your comment on Moonspinner's lovely blog & popped over to Ontario to say hi! Yes, I did ballet when very small. Or rather had to do it because all my friends were raving about it! I didn't like it then but now, years later, am SO grateful! It taught me a lot of things I've never forgotten! (And I wore a pink tutu!)
ReplyDeleteHappy pink Saturday to you too! Will return again soon!
xxLOL Nora & Lola:)
Great Post. It's different from so many Pink Saturday posts. As I read and scrolled down, I was hoping to see the poster I loved as a teenager in the eighties - and I did. The tattered legwarmers in fifth position(?)

"Livin With Peaches"
Everything Ballet speaks to me, the quiet, the lines, the music, the devotion.
ReplyDeleteYour post was why i search other blogs-- to have them speak to me-- to tell a story.
Sadly several try but the content is lacking. Yours, however, is spot on. Lovely pictures and story telling.
Bravo-- *heres a bouquet* ♥

That is such an interesting story about Diana! When I was a kid I was not thinking about ballet at all..., I wanted to be more like a boy..., climbing trees and such.
ReplyDeleteWell from THIS ballerina I will say there IS something still magical about it and perhaps that is why I now teach! I do not even see it as a job every day I am in the studio...it is so fun to share and push ones body, even at my old age LOL!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post! Goes right along with my ballerina cloche now doesn't it!
xo Molly
They really are just lovely to look at - so light and so beautiful. If only to have a piece of such grace.
